I worked with August briefly some 30 years ago on a CBC Radio adaptation of "The Diviners" by Margaret Laurence. He played Jules (Skinner) Tonnerre. He took the time to both encourage and offer tips to an otherwise nervous novice. I was truly grateful for this.
He now joins Chief Dan George and Tantoo Cardinal in the pantheon of actors that offered an authentic aboriginal voice for the nation. His proud vision, commanding voice and chiseled visage will be sorely missed...but..will remain with us forever in his work.

I had the chance to meet August when he received the Gascon-Thomas prize from the National Theatre School and when he came in Mtl for the celebration of our 50th anniversary. Great presence and genuine interest in people. We will miss him.
