Comments: I was in National Theatre School at the same time as Augie ( as I knew him) was graduating. I was in the Production Course and I knew then that Augie had a talent. I followed his career, through news clips and commentary from others, as he rose through the ranks to be an actor of such presence and performance power. I am pleased that his body of work has been recognised. I am saddened to hear of his passing due to the ravages of cancer. I know that the work he did in raising the level of native peoples' artistic talents and national observance will benefits all now and into the future. R.I.P. Augie your legacy will continue.

To the family, I don't know if this will ever get to you but someone needs to know my experience I had with August. In 1992 I opened a small restaurant in in Duluth Minnesota with not much business my wife were having a hard time so happens there was a movie that came to town for a shoot Iron Will well not soon after the crew all got to town we became the go to place for the entire crew and this is where I created a special relationship with August. As the movie crews would cycle through each day with varied schedules I had an opportunity get to know them all but it was August who was the person who left the most lasting impression of all, he incouraged us to stay the course not give up on our dream and good things would happen. Being from South Dakota we spent many hours talking about the native culture and he truly opened my eyes to a new way of thinking. I will always cherish those nights as I cooking and he would come in to my kitchen with a cold beer and thank me for making his stay in Duluth Minnesota so much nicer. The words he spoke to me really gave me the tools to succeed
